Exercise For Diabetes

Diabetes is a serious condition, but it doesn't have to be debilitating. The progression of the disease is directly related to how physically fit you are. If you lead a sedentary lifestyle then you are sure to experience more complications from the disease than if you exercise.

Besides eating right, exercise is the most important thing that you can do to help control your condition. The list of benefits that diabetics can derive from exercise are practically endless. In fact, in many cases it is quite possible to virtually wipe out the negative effects of diabetes by eating right and incorporating a great exercise program.

But not just any type of exercise will do. It needs to be “user friendly” so that you don't end up doing yourself more harm than good. Aerobic exercise is, by far, the best form of exercise that a diabetic can do.

Aerobics are great because they are low impact, making them ideal for diabetics with limited mobility. But even though they are classified as low impact, they deliver a tremendous amount of benefit to the individuals. Aerobics increases heart rate, improves circulation and keeps arteries from developing plaque. It also lowers bad cholesterol, raises good cholesterol and keeps triglycerides at bay. At the same time, it also keeps joints, ligaments, and muscles active and loose.

Walking is another great away to exercise since all it requires is a good pair of shoes. Some people like to work out with weights. This is fine as long as they take is easy. Straining from picking up heavy weights can put undue pressure on the eyes, irritating or even creating certain diabetes-related eye conditions.

In the end, all that matters is that you get up and get moving.
