Chromium Picolinate and Diabetes
Chromium picolinate has long been touted as having special abilities when referring to assisting type 2 diabetics, and those who are at a higher risk of developing the disease. Unfortunately, studies have shown that this supplement might not have the healing capabilities that it is famous for.
Results not conclusive
Recent studies have focused on claims relating to diabetics, particularly those which claim to regulate blood sugar levels, improve insulin resistance, increase the body's sensitivity to insulin, and either treat or even prevent diabetes. The results are in and it seems that to the dismay of diabetics everywhere there is no substantial proof that chromium picolinate can accomplish any of these feats, to a reasonable level.
When trials were conducted as to the effectiveness of chromium picolinate on insulin sensitivity, for example, there were no significant changes recorded. Although larger studies will be needed to further prove, or disprove the effects of the supplement, for now, doctors are advising patients to rely on the usual advice: diet and exercise.
Some apparent benefits
While the supplement might not be the golden ticket that diabetics had dreamed of, there are benefits to taking it. It appears that it does have the ability to help with carbohydrate cravings. It has also shown some proof of being a good regulator for appetites.
This has caused quite a bit of disappointment for many supplement manufacturers who rely on sales of chromium picolinate. But there was some encouraging news. In response to glucose release, the supplement did appear to help in the early phase of insulin secretion.
