T Cell Discovery may be a Promising New treatment for Type 1 Diabetics

Type 1 diabetes usually affects children and in some, rare cases adults. The body stops making the hormone insulin all together this can lead to more serious conditions such as a diabetic coma. Not to mention when we are talking about children it can be a scary experience for both the child and the parents.

Researchers Always Looking for Type 1 Treatments

Thankfully, researchers are always looking for treatments for type 1 diabetes as well as type 2. Although, type 1 diabetes has proven to be a more difficult disease to find and develop treatments for compared to type 2. Nonetheless, researchers continue to search and scientists continue to go through the phases of developing and performing clinical trails.

New T Cell Discovery

The new T cell that may help type 1 diabetics gain better control over their diabetes are called Th17 cells. "The elevated levels of Th17 cells in type 1 diabetes patients suggest that these cells may also play a key role in the early development of this disease in young patients," says Tan. "This discovery opens the door to new treatments for childhood diabetes that target Th17 cells." With this knowledge, preventive measures may be able to help a type 1 diabetic have good control over the diabetes before it even develops.

Dr. Rusung Tan also said, "This discovery opens the door to new treatments for childhood diabetes that target Th17 cells."
