GLUMETZA - Once a Day Oral Diabetes Medication Back on the Market

Glumetza is a once a day oral medication for type 2 diabetics. The medication is an extended release medication that releases the medication into the body through out a 24-hour period. Glumetza comes in both 500mg and 1000mg.

Less Risk of Hypoglycemia

One of the biggest attractions for type 2 diabetics is that when they are taking Glumetza there is almost no chance of a hypoglycemic episode occurring as long as the diabetic follows there caloric intake as the medication is released into the body on an almost continuous basis through out the 24 hours period. Hypoglycemia can be a frightening and life-threatening situation.

Statement from Depomed

Glumetza was recalled in June of 2010. The following is a statement form the president of Depomed "We are pleased that GLUMETZA 500 mg is again fully available to patients and physicians," said Depomed president and chief executive officer Carl A. Pelzel. "We would like to thank everyone at Depomed, Santarus and other involved parties for their hard work on the corrective actions associated with the June 2010 recall at the wholesale level that led to the supply disruption and their efforts on the resupply."
