Two Popular Diabetes Medications Compared - Risks are Equal

The on the market off the market back on the market diabetes medication Avandia which is currently still on the market at this time was compared to another popular diabetes medication Actos.

Avandia was pulled from the market because the FDA felt that the risk of increased heart disease and heart attacks was possible being caused by the medication.

Actos, which is as popular as Avandia, was then put to the test to see what side effects it had and if in fact, it could also possibly cause an increase in heart disease and heart attacks.

36, 938 people who where taking Avandia and Actos were studied. Of the 36, 938 diabetics where divided into two groups one of the groups which consisted of 602 people where taking the medication Avandia and the remaining 599 people were taking the medication Actos. These two groups of diabetics where evaluated for a period of 33 months.

Both Avandia and Actos were proven to have the same effect on certain diabetics. Neither one nor the other medication caused a higher amount of heart disease, heart attack or any other heart related condition including death. The two medications have an equal chance of a diabetic developing any of the listed conditions as a result of the use of either of the medications.
