Father Charged With Homicide In Son's Diabetes-Related Death

A father has been charged with second-degree reckless homicide in the death of his 15-year-old son after the boy died of apparent diabetic shock. Robert Glazner, a 49 year-old Wisconsin man, ignored his son's signs of illness, despite knowing his son's diabetic symptoms, leading to the boy's death, says the prosecution.

Glazner was arrested and has now been charged for the incident which happened in August of last year. The son, Bryden, had been diagnosed with diabetes and had been sick and vomiting all day. Glazner failed to check glucose levels or seek medical help for his son despite the signs. The boy's grandmother, Lina Glazner, who the father and son lived with, discovered the dead boy later that day and called police for an ambulance.

Bryden had been diagnosed three years prior with type 1 diabetes.

Autopsy and toxicology tests after the boy's death determined that he'd died from lack of care for his diabetes. His father had agreed to help manage his condition after a 2014 diagnosis of the boy's condition.

The problems arose shortly after the boy's diagnosis as his father refused diabetes education and other help in learning how to care for the boy's condition. The father claimed that he had no reason to do any of those things if the custody court did not mandate it.

When police investigated Brayden's death, they found his blood glucose meter, which hadn't been used for two days. His father's resistance to diabetes care education and the boy's known history of lax self-care for the condition were considered as factors in his death.
