Fitbit Partners With One Drop
Fitbit has announced a partnership with cloud-based diabetes care platform One Drop. The partnership with allow diabetics using a Fitbit Ionic device to synchronize it with their One Drop care management profile.
The partnership begins immediately with the One Drop option being added as a choice on Fitbit user profiles. The fitness and activity tracking information can then be used in One Drop accounts to measure blood glucose changes before, during, and after exercise to help users better manage their insulin requirements.
Data can be sent to physicians and diabetes educators to make personalized care decisions.
One Drop allows its data to be shared with caregivers with the patient's permission and the 500-million user-generated health data points One Drop collects can give deeper insights into averages and management techniques that might work as well as offer information for new enhancements to the service going forward.
“We strive to provide our community with the most comprehensive set of data and tools to manage their diabetes or prediabetes. Working with Fitbit, the leading global wearables brand, was a natural next step for One Drop,” One Drop CEO Jeff Dachis said in a statement.
Fitbit themselves have made it clear that they are evolving into medical devices to be used beyond just fitness tracking. The One Drop agreements is the first third-party partnership the company has made since that announcement.
