Hospitalization on the Rise for Young Diabetic Women

A recent study published in the “Journal of Women's Health” indicates a rapid increase in the amount of young diabetic women being hospitalized. The number of hospitalization in young women with diabetes has more than doubled since that last statistics were published.

What Doctors Think about the Increase in Hospitalization

Doctors believe the increase has a lot to do with obesity in these young women, ages 30-39. As the obesity rate in American continues to skyrocket so does the amount of people being diagnosed with diabetes.

Diabetic Women Sicker than Non-diabetic Women

Doctors also believe that diabetic women seem to get sicker more often than men do. Of course, not everyone with diabetes is obese or even over weight so there must be another logical explanation to compliment the obesity related reason for hospitalization.

Adjusting to Life with Diabetes

Women between the ages of 30 and 39 are just entering the prime of their lives and to be suddenly given a diagnosis of diabetes can not only be mentally damaging but physically damaging as well. A good amount of these women are soccer moms, perfect wives, career climbing individuals who feel they don’t have time for diabetes. The initial stage of denial can certainly cause a young woman to “ignore” the diabetes or the simple fact that she is a very busy woman. Stress can also do a number on the body and diabetes does cause stress. Eventually the reality becomes evident and the young woman is forced to face the diabetes and take the new steps needed have a healthy life.
