First Signs Of Diabetes

Diabetes is a very serious disease that strikes millions of people every year. Unfortunately, many of these individuals are not aware that they have the disease and, therefore, are not treating it. That's why it is vital to know its early warning signs.

As we age, our bodies tend to go through subtle changes. But we often attribute these changes to getting older and not the real cause. For instance, not being able to eat certain foods at certain times. Things that we were once able to tolerate now cause significant changes within our bodies. Sugar is at the top of this list.

When an individual starts processing sugar differently this is a warning sign that something is wrong. The person will often experience episodes of hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia. In reality, it is the body signaling that the sugar production is not in sync with insulin levels.

Another frequent complaint is that they have increased thirst. Again, this is typically chalked up to a diet too high in sodium, when in reality the types of foods have nothing to do with it.

Along the same lines is frequent urination. Since the person seems to be consuming more water they erroneously associate the increase in urination to the added volume of water being taken in. Even though this makes perfect sense, it is another example of being fooled by the effects of diabetes.

With so much confusion in these symptoms, it is better to look for others that are not quite as obvious. Some telltale signs that should be dead giveaways include losing weight even when diet has not changed, wounds that are slow to heal, blurred vision and a tingling or numbness in the lower extremities.
