Diabenese
It is quite common for diabetics to be prescribed medication as a way of helping them to control their disease. Diabenese is one of those medications given when diet alone is not a sufficient controlling measure.
Given as a treatment option for type 2 diabetes (or diabetes mellitus), this medication works to lower blood sugar levels. Also known by its popular generic name of Chlorpropamide, it accomplishes this important task by serving a dual purpose. Not only does it help the pancreas in secreting the right level of insulin needed for the body, but it helps the body to use that insulin in the most efficient manner.
This medication does come with some possible mild side effects. They include: headaches, increased heart rate, increased perspiration, dizziness and shaky feeling, weakness and fatigue, pale color, blurred vision and an increase in hunger.
Other more serious side effects can include discolored stools, darkened urine, unusual bleeding and bruising, a yellowish tint to the eyes and skin, rash, itching, redness or dark sunburn appearance of skin, fever, seizures and loss of consciousness. If any of these symptoms appear, you should notify your primary care provider immediately.
Due to the nature of this medication and the important role that it plays in the management of glucose levels, it is important to only take it as it is prescribed. Any deviation from the suggested dosage and when it should be taken may create an adverse reaction. If you miss a dosage, you should take it as soon as you remember, unless it is close to your next dosage. Also, never double up on a dosage.
